It was another big weekend across the Kellyville Kolts Premier League squads, with our MPL First Grade and WPL sides both producing important wins, while our Reserve Grade, MPL 21/1 and WPL 21/1 teams faced tough contests in key ladder-shaping fixtures.
The Kolts First Grade side continued their strong start to the season with a 4-2 away win over Epping Eastwood FC, a result that keeps the Red and Black sitting proudly at the top of the ladder.
The match could not have started much better for Kellyville, with Nicholas Giampietro finding the back of the net in the opening minute to give the Kolts an early 1-0 lead on the road.
Epping Eastwood responded in the 15th minute to level the scores, setting up a tight contest between two competitive sides.
The breakthrough came in the second half through Hamish Callaghan, who put the Kolts back in front in the 68th minute before striking again in the 85th minute to give Kellyville some breathing room late in the match.
Epping Eastwood pulled one back in the 88th minute to make the final stages interesting, but Christopher Barbera sealed the result in stoppage time with a 92nd minute goal to lock away a valuable 4-2 away win.
A strong result, four goals, and top spot retained away from home. Not a bad way to travel.
The Reserve Grade match was a tight and important away fixture at the top end of the table, with Epping Eastwood FC taking a 2-1 win and moving past the Kolts into top spot.
Kellyville started well, with Angus Allen scoring in the 11th minute to give the Kolts the early lead.
Epping Eastwood responded almost immediately, equalising in the 12th minute before taking the lead in the 38th minute.
Despite the Kolts pushing to get back into the game, the home side held on to claim the points. It was a frustrating result for the Reserve Grade squad, but with plenty of football still to play, the challenge now is to respond strongly and keep pressure on at the top of the ladder.
The MPL 21/1 side had a tough outing against Winston Hills, going down 5-0 in a match that has tightened the race at the top of the table.
Winston Hills took full advantage on the day and, with the result, now sit just one point behind the Kolts on the ladder.
It was not the result the squad was after, but this group has shown plenty of quality across the season. The focus now turns to regrouping, resetting and responding in the next round.
The Women’s Premier League side produced one of the standout results of the weekend, defeating Castle Hill United 5-1 and moving into the top four.
After a tight first half, the Kolts came out firing after the break, with Hannah Urquhart opening the scoring in the 46th minute.
Kevin Opia doubled the lead in the 55th minute before Grace Qassis made her mark with a goal in the 79th minute.
Castle Hill United pulled one back, but the Kolts finished the match strongly. Georgia Hogan scored in the 88th minute, before Grace Qassis completed her double in the 90th minute to cap off an impressive 5-1 win.
It was a confident, clinical second-half performance from the WPL squad and an important result as they continue to build momentum in the competition.
The WPL 21/1 side shared the points with Castle Hill United after a 2-2 draw.
It was a competitive contest between two sides willing to push the game, and while the Kolts would have been chasing the full three points, they still came away with a result from a hard-fought match.
Across the five Premier League fixtures, the Kolts finished with two wins, one draw and two losses.
The First Grade men continue to lead from the front, the WPL squad has moved into the top four, and the ladder races across all Premier League competitions are starting to heat up.
There is plenty still to play for, and the Red and Black remain right in the mix across the board. Plenty of football, plenty of feeling, and probably a few nervous ladder-watchers already refreshing their phones.
